7 Common Plumbing Issues and How to Fix Them

Your home or business’ plumbing is one of the most essential systems, and any problems can cause you a major headache.

Plumbing problems come in all shapes and sizes, but one thing they all have in common is they shouldn’t be ignored.

In this article, we’ll take a look at seven of the most common plumbing issues and how you can fix them. While the problems we’ll cover can be handled yourself, remember that if you need advice, support or the issue becomes more severe or is an emergency, you should always seek the help of professional plumbers like Full Circuit Electrical.

Common plumbing issues and how to fix them

There is a wide range of common plumbing issues to be aware of, including:

Noisy pipes

What causes this? – Noisy pipes can occur for several reasons, including high water pressure, clogged pipes or loose fittings.

How can this issue be fixed? – Usually, high water pressure is the culprit and you may want to contact your supplier to get them to check. This is important as high water pressure can eventually lead to leaks and cause taps to wear out. You can also have a pressure regulator professionally installed to monitor water pressure and ensure it remains at a safe level – Full Circuit Electrical can assist with this.

Dripping taps

What causes this? – Common causes of dripping taps include the wearing out of key components such as washers, valves or seals.

How can this issue be fixed? – Usually, the washer is the problem and this is a quick fix if you know how to change it. If not, contact Full Circuit Electrical and we can resolve the issue in no time.

Low / weak water pressure

What causes this? – Low or weak water pressure indicates there is a problem with the pipes such as corrosion or leaks.

How can this issue be fixed? – If the problem is only with a few taps or showerheads, then cleaning the aerator on faucets may be enough to resolve the problem. However, if the issue is more severe, power flushing may be required which must be done by an expert.

Constant running water in the toilet

What causes this? – The most likely cause of running water in a toilet is that the flapper needs to be replaced.

How can this issue be fixed? – Flappers are cheap and easy to replace, but usually, it is more effective to replace the whole flush valve. You may want to consult a professional plumber to do this for you and make sure the flapper is causing the problem and not the float ball or refill tube.

No water

What causes this? – If there is no water from any of your taps, then the supply to your home is the problem. However, if it’s just a few that aren’t working then it’s a plumbing issue rather than a mains supply problem.

How can this issue be fixed? – First, you need to locate your home’s stopcock. If it has been closed, turn it anti-clockwise to open it again. If it is already open and there is no water, then it’s a plumbing problem that needs professional attention.

Clogged toilets

What causes this? – A clogged toilet is usually caused by a blockage of either paper or human waste.

How can this issue be fixed? – Using a plunger is a good way to clear the blockage, but if this doesn’t work then you may require a professional clogged toilet repair from Full Circuit Electrical.

No heating or hot water

What causes this? – A loss of heating or hot water can be caused by several things relating to your boiler from faulty thermostats to relighting pilot lights.

How can this issue be fixed? – While relighting the pilot light is a simple task, if there is any other issue then you’ll almost certainly need professional support. At Full Circuit Electrical, we can help with all kinds of boiler servicing and repairs
